Improving Community Assets

Community Buildings (Village Halls)

Village halls or Community Buildings are public buildings run by dedicated groups of volunteers, who have the responsibility for all aspects of management of the building in line with current legislation. Village and community buildings play important roles in their community as they provide a facility for social, recreational and cultural activity. With the support of its parish council, an active hall can greatly improve the quality of life for the community by acting as a focal point for social interaction and service delivery.

Cambridgeshire ACRE works at local and regional level to ensure that the importance of halls and their needs are recognised. A key part of our role is to monitor developments in any legislation that will affect the management of halls/buildings.

We are a member of the Rural Community Buildings Network whose aims are to improve communication on matters that affect rural community buildings; share information and best practice; and provide a unified voice to influence local and central government.

Our Community Facilities team can provide advice and support on community buildings management. For more information, please contact Philip Peacock on 01353 865033 or Julie Weekes on 01353 865032.

In addition, Cambridgeshire ACRE publishes a range of fact-sheets relating to every aspect of managing community buildings. If your query is a simple one, our fact-sheets may provide the answers you are looking for.
