Community empowerment takes place when local residents participate in dialogue and activities regarding the well-being of their community. It can take place within communities, with local people and community groups working together to better understand each others' needs and then finding and implementing solutions to issues raised, for example, community projects that make a difference to the life of residents. Community empowerment is also increasingly used to strengthen the links between communities and wider statutory partners, for instance local government and public service agencies.
