Rural Churches for Rural Communities
Cambridgeshire ACRE's three-year project, Rural Churches for Rural Communities, launched on 31 March 2011.
Working with and on behalf of the Diocese of Ely, and funded by English Heritage, the project is seeking to create a strategy for the longer-term management of historic places of worship within the Ely Diocese.
The strategy will have the community at its heart and will seek to identify where real opportunities for using historic buildings as service 'hubs' for supporting community life exist. In doing so, congregations will be advised on the care of their historic buildings and given support to develop and implement their own plans, by identifying wider-community needs, making funding applications and further appreciating the value of their historic place of worship.
A factsheet on sources of funding for churches is available to download from the Resources and Downloads section.
Also available to download are two presentations given at a recent (14-Nov-2011) event entitled Maximising the use of Churches for the Community which give an insight into the way church buildings are being used by the wider community at both a local and national level.
