Community Life Awards 2008

Search Begins for Top Communities in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough

Prize Money Of Over £3,000 On Offer

The search has begun for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough's top communities of 2008. The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Community Life Awards sponsored by Calor in association with Archant and others are being launched and leaflets will be sent out to the county's villages, market towns, community groups and community buildings inviting them to enter, with the chance of sharing over £3,000 in prizes.

The Awards are organised by Cambridgeshire ACRE with sponsorship provided by Calor in association with Archant, Cambridgeshire County Council and others. They fall into three different areas:

The Cambridgeshire Volunteer Awards are sponsored by Cambridgeshire County Council. The Volunteer Awards are a chance to nominate those local heroes and unsung volunteers for their outstanding contribution to community life. The awards themselves do not have a huge monetary value but are a symbol of the County’s appreciation of individual voluntary effort. In a change to last year, the Cambridgeshire Volunteer Awards will be open to organisations and groups and not just individuals.

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Village of the Year award is sponsored by Calor, the UK’s leading supplier of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas). This award recognises community spirit and achievement at a village level; scenic beauty is not important. The prize is £1,000 for the winning community to spend however it wishes.

Aspects of Community Life is sponsored by Archant (the local newspaper group) and a host of other local businesses and organisations. Aspects of Community Life will give community groups and locally-run facilities recognition for the huge, positive impact they have on different aspects of community life. Winners will benefit from cash awards of between £200 and £500. The categories available for entries are: Children and Young People in the Community, Older People in the Community, Environment and the Community, Enterprise in the Community, Sport in the Community and Community Building of the Year.

Please visit the Awards website at www.communitylifeawards.org.uk for more details and entry forms.
