The Queen’s Green Canopy is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
People across the United Kingdom have been invited to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”. Everyone from individuals to community groups, schools, corporate organisations, villages, towns, cities, and counties have been encouraged to play their part to enhance our environment by planting trees.
Earlier this year, Cambridgeshire ACRE ran an online session, supported by Her Majesty the Queen’s representative in the County, the Lord Lieutenant, Julie Spence OBE CStJ QPM, to give information on how to take part. If you missed it, you can watch a recording online.
We’ve been following up with participants to see who has planted trees so far and there’s been an excellent response. You can see the trees planted so far on this interactive map and see pictures of local trees planted on Cambridgeshire County Council’s website.
Summer is not the best time to plant trees but tree planting can start again in October and will run through to the end of the Jubilee year. We know lots of Cambridgeshire communities have plans to plant their tree(s) in the Autumn and we look forward to seeing photos in due course.
If your community hasn’t yet taken part, there’s still to do so. You will find all the information you need at https://queensgreencanopy.org/get-involved/communities-and-groups/https://queensgreencanopy.org/get-involved/communities-and-groups/
